U16 SEG League Match

On Sunday 28th April, the Surrey U16s travelled to the Darenth Golf Club in Kent for their first league match of the season, against Kent and Sussex. After a very productive practice round with Head County Coach John Noble on the Saturday, the team were well prepared and ready to go. The team for this match consisted of the following players:

  • Kodi Dean (Wentworth)
  • Finlay Fergusson (Burhill)
  • Aaron Moody (Burhill)
  • Jack Turner (Royal Mid-Surrey)
  • Yakov Vorobyev (Wentworth)
  • Harry Weatherhead (Burhill)
  • Nikolai Wilding (Windlesham)
  • Kuan Zhou (Burhill)

Nikolai Wilding went out first and played some steady golf, closing out both matches 2&1 on the 17th green. Following Nikolai, Kodi Dean also played very nicely, beating Sussex and halving with Kent, meaning 3.5 out of a possible 4 points had been secured from the first two matches.

Kent and Sussex then came back strongly, with both teams having a middle order made up of some very good players. Harry Weatherhead’s win over Kent was the only point secured by Surrey in the next four matches.

Aaron Moody played well to beat Kent 2&1 in the seventh match, but sadly he came up just short against his Sussex opponent.

Bringing up the rear whilst also making his Surrey debut, Kuan Zhou played some brilliant golf in front of an ever-growing crowd to close out his match 1 up against Kent and halve with Sussex.

This meant that the final scores were:

Surrey 4.5 – 3.5 Kent and Surrey 2.5 – 5.5 Sussex. Please click here to view the full results.

Our thanks to the Darenth for hosting the match, and to their members for giving up their course for the afternoon.

The team now looks ahead to their next match against Hampshire and Sussex at Camberley Heath in June.
