Surrey First Team v Hindhead
On the 14th April the Surrey 1st Team had their 3rd pre-season match of the season facing a very strong Hindhead team. As always Hindhead GC was in exceptional shape and was a real pleasure to play.
The pairing of Max O’Hagan & Terry Nicholls would lead Surrey out in match 1. Getting off to a fast start they managed to enter the back nine 3up before a spring of birdies would close out the match as 4&2 victors.
Group 2 was made up off Aadam Syed & Steve Coyne who managed to play very consistent golf tee to green. With Surrey being 1up going down the last, the experience of Hindhead legend Kieran Lovelock shone through as the Hindhead pairing would go on to birdie 18 and half the match.
Ben Palmer & John Ingham have formed a strong partnership this pre-season which seemed to continue at Hindhead with a stellar performance and comfortable win.
Match 4 had the experienced pairing of Will Dugdale & David Primrose. A fast start had the Surrey pair 4 up after 4 holes. Despite a rare offline tee shot from Will on the 10th resulting in a lost hole, solid play over the next few holes culminating in a birdie on the 13th closed out the match 6&5.
A successful morning for Surrey however all was still to play for around a challenging course where local knowledge is a huge factor.
Syed would lead Surrey out in the singles against current Surrey Captain and Hindhead member David Corben. With both players exchanging blows throughout the match Corben would enter the last hole 1 up. With Syed narrowly missing a putt to halve, Hindhead would clinch the first game 1up.
Nicholls would play at No.2 again having a great game against Cameron Phillips with both players shaking hands on 18 at all square. Surrey would then real off a number of victories in the singles for a final result of 8.5-3.5 in Surrey’s favour.
